As Walter Edmundson (Haulage) Ltd enters 2008 the Directors look forward to 2009 when the business is 75 years old. No other company shipping to the Isle of Man can count this many years experience in providing an innovative, reliable and quality service to Manx businesses and the Manx public.

The Company introduced the first lift-on / lift-off container service to the Isle of Man, operating through its sister company Ronagency (Shipping) Ltd, initially from Preston Docks and then from Glasson Dock to Castletown. At its peak this service chartered up to 4 cargo vessels on the busy route.

Some years later Edmundsons were instrumental in starting the first roll-on / roll-off shipping service to the Isle of Man, Manx Line, using the vessel MV Manx Viking. This service was acquired by Sealink whose owner, James Sherwood, went on to acquire controlling interests in the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company Ltd, who currently operate the same route.

Coincidentally, the parent company of Walter Edmundson (Haulage) Ltd, Manx Independent Carriers Ltd also celebrate a special anniversary, the Company will be 25 years old, some 50 behind Edmundsons. The two companies now operate the premier service to the Isle of Man and are the market leaders in Isle of Man Freight and Shipping.
